Leipziger Messe corporate group achieves record result in 2013

Leipziger Messe GmbH with the Congress Center Leipzig (CCL) and its five subsidiaries ends the 2013 event year with record sales estimated at over 85 million euros. “This was the best business year for Leipziger Messe since German reunification,” says Managing Director, Martin Buhl-Wagner. “For this we would like to thank our clients, partners and employees.” In total around 1.2 million guests visited the 37 trade fairs, 97 conventions and 34 events in the areas of business, politics, sport and entertainment. The Park Hotel – Tradition for 100 Years

The four-star Leipzig hotel is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2013. It welcomes both business travellers and individual tourists . The trade fair city of Leipzig fascinates visitors – with its numerous cultural events, fancy shopping arcades, impressively restored buildings and, last but not least, busy nightlife. LEIPZIG 1813 – In the Turmoil of the Battle of the Nations

Yadegar Asisi’s monumental 360°Panorama LEIPZIG 1813 – In the Turmoil of the Battle of the Nations will be on show in Leipzig from 3 August. On a scale of 1:1, the world’s largest Panorama covering about 3,500 m² presents the Saxon trading city of Leipzig as seen by its hard-pressed residents after the end of the Battle of the Nations. The city’s architecture is as it was in 1813 and there is a state of pandemonium around the troops and the innumerable wounded and stranded people. After this battle involving an estimated 600,000 soldiers and the victory of the allies, which included troops from Austria, Prussia, Russia and Sweden, Napoleon’s campaigns of conquest in Europe came to an end in 1813. FEMS 2013: CCL Welcomes Nobel Laureates

From 21st to 25th July, the Congress Center Leipzig (CCL) is welcoming the Federation of European Microbiological Societies’ (FEMS) 5th Conference of European Microbiologists. This European umbrella organization of microbiologists unites 48 research facilities and organisations in 36 countries. Up to 2,000 delegates are expected at the CCL. FEMS 2013 will contribute to enhancing the profile of Leipzig as a research location and to promoting it world-wide. Among the most renowned conference participants are Professor Anne Glover, Chief Scientific Advisor to the European Union, and Professor Harald zur Hausen, who in 2008 was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine for his research into cervical cancer and the influence of certain viruses... more information

New Non-Stop Services to Paris and Amsterdam Operated by Darwin Airline from 2 September onwards

The Swiss regional airline Darwin Airline will connect Leipzig/Halle Airport with Paris and Amsterdam from 2 September onwards. This means that Leipzig/Halle is the first airport in Germany, from which Darwin Airline will operate scheduled services. Non-stop to Paris and Amsterdam as often as twice a day Darwin Airline will connect Leipzig/Halle Airport with the cities of Paris and Amsterdam daily from 2 September onwards. The airline will use a Saab 2000 aircraft with 50 seats. The international hubs of Paris Charles de Gaulle and Amsterdam offer many connecting flights within the Air France-KLM global network of routes. Apocalyptica meets Wagner: World premiere of ‘Wagner Reloaded’ in the Arena Leipzig on 5th July 2013

On the occasion of Richard Wagner’s 200th birthday, a stunning music event is scheduled to celebrate its world premiere in the Arena Leipzig event hall on 5th July 2013: The spectacular cross-over show ‘Wagner Reloaded’ will open this year’s MDR Music Summer. The choreography by Gregor Seyffert is going to focus on central periods of Richard Wagner’s life and work, from his birth in Leipzig until his death in Venice. With the MDR Symphony Orchestra and the MDR Radio Choir performing, the audience can look forward to a brilliant spectacle with music, dance, circus arts, object theatre and audiovisual media. Innovative Convention Marketing by “Feel the spirit ... do-it-at-leipzig.de”

The initiative project “Feel the spirit ... do-it-at-leipzig.de” is unique all over Germany. It unites 48 partners – conference hotels, congress centres, event locations, agencies, PCOs and carriers, who join their efforts to promote the conference city. With an increase of 13.4 per cent, the highest in any major German city, Leipzig again reached a record number of overnight stays in 2012.
