National and international event organisers value Leipzig as a convention venue

Congress Center Leipzig (CCL) and KONGRESSHALLE am Zoo Leipzig can look back on a strong performance during the first six months of the year. Numerous conventions with several thousand participants from around the world and high-ranking guests, along with a consistently filled events calendar, contributed to this result.

Many national and international conventions have been held at the CCL on the Leipzig exhibition grounds since the beginning of the year, starting with the Leipzig Interventional Course (LINC). The number of participants at this convention for vascular physicians continued to increase over the previous year, as almost 5,000 physicians from more than 80 countries came to Leipzig in January. The 10th International Congress on Autoimmunity in April was attended by more than 2,000 participants, and was the setting for interdisciplinary exchange and continuing education about auto-immune diseases. This event was organised by Kenes International. The global leader in organising events for the medical and natural science fields has already selected CCL as a venue location several times since 2013.

This is the ninth time the International Transport Forum (ITF) of the OECD was held at the CCL in May; the event received more than 1,000 participants from 70 countries, including numerous ministers and other decision-makers from politics, the economy, research and society. It is the most important meeting place of the global transportation industry.

Other top-class national conventions also relied on the services offered by the CCL. In May, the first German X-Ray Congress (Deutscher Röntgenkongress) was held in Leipzig, welcoming 6,800 participants to the exhibition grounds. Another high-ranking medical event includes the German Anaesthetics Congress (Deutscher Anästhesie Congress (DAC)) with 3,500 participants. This was the fourth time that the annual meeting, which was held in May, came to the CCL. With the German Foundation Day (Deutscher StiftungsTag), the CCL was also the venue of the largest European foundation congress in May. It was opened by Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel, and welcomed 1,900 guests.

Strong demand for KONGRESSHALLE am Zoo Leipzig

The CCL officially started operations of the KONGRESSHALLE am Zoo Leipzig at the beginning of the year; since then, the venue has benefited from many bookings and a steady stream of inquiries from event organisers. The spectrum ranges from medical and scientific meetings to society and cultural events and trade fairs. In the scientific area, this includes the German Biology Days (Deutsche Biotechnologietage) and the International Symposium on Neuroprotection and Neurorepair. With approximately 650 participants, a congress programme spanning over 12 rooms and approximately 40 exhibitors in the Great Hall (Grosser Saal), the DGG Kompakt der Deutschen Dermatologischen Gesellschaft convention was one of the most complex events held in the KONGRESSHALLE to date.

The social traditions of this organisation, which was founded in 1900, found their expression in the  dance balls, and the Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk recorded its entertainment show “Kulthits” in the Great Hall. In addition, the KONGRESSHALLE was one of the key event venues for the German Day of Catholics 2016 (Deutscher Katholikentag) in Leipzig.  The building also presented a suitable trade fair setting for the “Heldenmarkt – Messe für nachhaltigen Konsum” and the Central German Real Estate Convention (Mitteldeutscher Immobilienkongress).

The outlook to the second half of the year promises a continuation of the positive booking situation for both locations, and therefore a very positive business result.
