Leipzig at IMEX 2019: Strikingly sustainable

Modern, innovative and the perfect place for a change of perspective: this is how the conference destination Leipzig will be presenting itself from 21 until 23 May at IMEX 2019 in Frankfurt. At the most important trade fair for the international congress, meeting, events and incentive sector, Leipzig Tourismus und Marketing (LTM) GmbH and seven partners from the congress initiative “Feel the spirit…” will showcase the venues, services and sustainable ideas that Leipzig offers event organisers.

Take a “coffee to go – to Leipzig!”
Inspired by traditional American diners, the centre of the action will be a shipping container that has been converted into a street food joint with an urban charm. Here IMEX visitors can enjoy delicacies “à la Leipzig” in the style of a spontaneous street kiosk. A barista will prepare fresh speciality coffees and serve them in reusable porcelain cups. This appealing alternative to disposable cups is not only a long-lasting memento of your visit to the fair; emblazoned with the words “Coffee to go to Leipzig”, it’s also an innovative invitation to the flourishing Saxon city.

Upcycling for a modern trade fair stand
From the outset, sustainable approaches played an important role in the concept behind Leipzig’s appearance at IMEX 2019. After all, plenty of stakeholders in Leipzig are committed to more sustainability in the event industry. The stand will thus also feature impressive examples of upcycling – the reuse of supposed waste and discarded materials. Wooden boxes, Euro pallets and workbenches have been refurbished especially to furnish the stand. Old rain barrels have been given a makeover and will serve as islands for informal chats. All this will continue to be used after the trade fair, meaning Leipzig’s appearance at the fair will generate as little waste as possible.
To make the best possible use of the slightly more than 35 square metres of space, visitors are also invited onto the roof of the container. Here they can not only enjoy a unique view of the lively trade fair action, but also have a quiet chat with Leipzig locals.
Just like a real diner, there will also be illuminated lettering on the back wall of the IMEX stand, which will be visible from afar. With a combination of matt anthracite and rich lime green, the overall colour scheme focuses on striking contrasts. One thing’s for sure: there will be no missing Leipzig.
The whole design alludes not least to creativity in the use and conversion of spaces – which is found in many places throughout Leipzig, such as the city’s former industrial districts. One example of this is the Kunstkraftwerk, which will be appearing at IMEX for the first time after winning a wild card: you’ll find it just a few metres from the Leipzig stand together with the GCB. Built in 1900, the former heating plant now stages immersive and digital art. Organisers will find an exciting backdrop for their events here.

Sustainability in action: Leipzig’s team spirit
Besides LTM, representatives of the Congress Center Leipzig (CCL) with the KONGRESSHALLE am Zoo Leipzig, Porsche Leipzig, the Red Bull Arena Leipzig, The Westin Leipzig, the Leipzig Marriott Hotel as well as Zoo Leipzig will all be present at Leipzig’s IMEX stand to provide information about the conference destination. They represent the approximately 50 partners of the congress initiative “Feel the”, a network dedicated to serving the conference destination of Leipzig. The ongoing cooperation between venues, hotels, logistics and other partners is having a positive effect on the entire location. This pooling of resources is a further aspect of sustainability in practice – from which organisers benefit. The joint presentation at IMEX once again underscores Leipzig’s special team spirit.
