ESPID 2015, Leipzig
The Congress Center Leipzig (CCL) welcomes the European Society for Paediatric Infectious Diseases (ESPID) from 12 - 16 May, 2015. It is expected that 3,000 participants from across Europe will be attending this event. In its bid for this international conference, the CCL's application stood out due to Leipzig's competence in the medical area and its close collaboration with clinics and all participating stakeholders in the city.
ESPID focuses on the research, diagnostics and treatment of infections in children. Participants benefit in particular from the practical relevance of this event, such as novel treatment methods for lung infections in children. Other conference topics include the meaningful use of antibiotics in paediatric practice, infectious gastro-intestinal diseases, vaccination recommendations and the proper handling of certain pets that create a higher risk of infection. Participants come from all over Europe; many others also come from the US, South America, Australia or Israel.
The last conference was held in 2013 in Milan, and in Dublin in 2014. The fact that the event will be held in Leipzig this year is the result of intensive efforts that were led by conference presidents Prof. Dr. Michael Borte, Head of the Paediatric Rheumatology Department, Immunology and Infectiology at Klinikum St. Georg, and Prof. Dr. Volker Schuster, Head of the Outpatients' Clinic for Policlinic for Paediatric and Youth Medicine at Universitätsklinikum Leipzig. The two well-known medical professionals worked closely with CCL, which also contributed to the successful outcome with its optimum environment and good reputation as an event location for large medical conferences. The application was also supported by all conference partners of the City, and the positive collaborative relationship once again paid off. In addition, Leipzig's efforts were also supported by numerous peers from across Germany, including the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Pädiatrische Infektiologie and other paediatric societies.
ESPID is organised by Kenes International, one of the world's leading conference organisers for medical and natural sciences, which had already selected the CCL as a conference location previously in 2013. At that time, the CCL hosted the Federation of European Microbiological Societies (FEMS. Kenes has already confirmed another date for the upcoming year, as the 10th International Congress on Autoimmunity with approximately 2,000 autoimmunology experts from around the world will be held in Leipzig at the beginning of April.
