With a turnover of € 6.8 million (2012: 5.5 million), 2014 has been the Leipzig Congress Center's (CCL) most successful year since it was founded in 1996. Contributing to these record figures were a total of 66 congresses and conferences, as well as 22 congress programmes to accompany various trade fairs, with, at the same time, an increase in the number of major events. In 2014, the CCL welcomed some 116,000 visitors from more than 100 countries.

Amongst the high points of the past year are ten major congresses with several thousand delegates and very high levels of international participation. They include both conferences, which are regularly hosted in the CCL, and new events. In January, for example, some 4,700 vascular specialists from more than 70 countries came to the LINC Leipzig Interventional Course. This has been taking place in the CCL since 2009 and has been growing every year since then. On 7 May, more than 1,100 participants - including the Transport Ministers of the 54 OECD states and high-ranking delegates from the worlds of politics, business, academia and science - came from 70 different countries to take part in the International Transport Forum (ITF). The annual conference of the German Association of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Kinder- und Jugendmedizin), with some 3,000 delegates, the 2014 Congress of Visceral Medicine (VISZERALMEDIZIN 2014) with around 4,800 participants and the German Opthalmology Society Congress (Deutsche Ophthalmologische Gesellschaft) with more than 4,000 attendees, all took place in the CCL. In December there were another 4,000 guests from more than 100 countries, who came to the JCI World Congress, which is held in a different member country every year and which was one of the most international events to have taken place in the CCL.

Customers enjoy the advantages of expertly integrated event organisation

Be it a business event, a major congress or one to accompany a trade exhibition – the CCL is a venue that inspires confidence in its customers through its expertise and highly efficient network. The Congress Center's exclusive caterers, fairgourmet, provide all the catering, from coffee during the breaks to gala dinners in the Great Glass Hall.   As experienced congress service providers, FAIRNET offer tailor-made solutions right from the planning stage through to the presentation of accompanying exhibitions.     Both are subsidiaries of Leipziger Messe and that makes it possible to provide all kinds of flexible solutions to suit organisers' needs. Moreover, all the other related services are available to customers from the one provider – from travel planning, hotel reservations and transfers on site to the complementary and leisure programmes that accompany congresses and conferences. The CCL collaborates closely with well-known research institutions in the City of Leipzig, as well as with numerous other local partners and this, together with a deliberate focus on the sectors that are most important in the locality, has also made a major contribution to the successful acquisition of new events in 2014.

Specialists from all over the world to visit CCL in 2015 too

The next major events involving international participants are already included in the congress calendar for this coming year. Thus, for instance, the CCL won the bid to host the Congress of the European Society for Paediatric Infectious Diseases (ESPID) with more than 3,000 delegates – not least because of the proven expertise in paediatric medicine that exists in the locality. It is to be organised, in May, by Kenes International, one of the world's leading congress organisers in the fields of medicine and science. They have already chosen the CCL as a venue once before, in 2013.  Moreover, in June, we are expecting some 4,500 participants at the Congress of the German Association of Opthalmic Surgeons (Bundesverband Deutscher OphthalmoChirurgen) and a further 3,000 people at the annual conference of the German Society for Senology (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Senologie). And the Federal Congress of the German Union Council for the service industries, 'ver.di.' will again be meeting in the CCL in 2015.
