An eventful past

The city of Leipzig boasts a long and eventful history.
In the 12th century, Europe’s most important trade routes crossed here in urbs Lipzi, laying the foundation for more than 850 years of trade fairs. With a university founded in 1409, the city has always been a centre of education and scholarship, a meeting place for intellectual exchange. Leipzig also enjoys an excellent reputation as a city of music.
The city of Leipzig has always stood for energy, creative will and a proud citizenry, for cosmopolitanism, hospitality and a thirst to discover the unknown. Its history also testifies to Leipzig’s willingness to form networks and place the power of the individual at the service of a common vision. It was this very spirit which helped inspire the Peaceful Revolution of 1989, of which Leipzig is among the most important locations.

From unique venues to flexible sizes, Leipzig offers event organisers an unrivalled range of conference possibilities.

Goethe’s Faust; the exotic ambience of the breathtaking tropical world inside Zoo Leipzig’s Gondwanaland; the MDR Media City; the neo-baroque flair of the Salles de Pologne; the classic Japanese style of the hotel The Westin Leipzig; Porsche Leipzig with its high-octane racetrack; the Red Bull Arena Leipzig, which is home to football legends RB Leipzig; the Panometer Leipzig, presenting the world’s largest 360-degree panoramas; and the Panorama Tower high above the rooftops of the city. Our door is open

Leipzig is bang on trend. Not only is the city growing every year, but its innovative and vibrant arts and cultural scene is becoming increasingly popular. This is also having an impact on Leipzig’s hotel sector, which has flourished in recent years.

Guests can choose from around 136 establishments, and with approximately 19,300 beds in 9000 rooms, there is something to suit every requirement and budget. First-class facilities operated by renowned international hotel chains meet the highest demands. Privately run establishments and boutique hotels are loved for their style and individuality. Most of them are located in or near the beautiful city centre, meaning they benefit from excellent transport connections and are a stone’s throw from a wide range of recreational opportunities after long congress days.

A business and science hub

Leipzig is one of the most dynamic cities in Germany. This is reflected above all in its steadily growing population and rising employment.
In order to secure its position as an attractive location for innovative technologies, services and industries, the city of Leipzig is concentrating on its competence cluster strategy. These clusters include the automotive and supplier industries, energy and environmental engineering, logistics, media and the creative industries, and healthcare and biotechnology.
Leipzig excels both economically and scientifically in these fields, and as such they also play a central role in the local conference industry. Thematically suitable and related congresses are deliberately invited to Leipzig. Seasoned experts act as ambassadors for the conference destination, making a significant contribution to successful bids.
Successful events in turn enhance Leipzig’s profile as a centre for business, science and research even further, promoting it both nationally and around the world.
